This is my project for improving the visual appearance of Kingston Station from the first semester. The problem of the area was the traffic of cars, cyclists and people. The clash between them was big. Of course it isn't central London where the scale and amount of people is much bigger. However in this case we had to design something nice to improve the situation and make the entrance to the town memorable. My idea is to make more space for people by removing some objects on the path. Then instead of existing brick wall I used an indoor glass wall like the ones in shopping malls. Then I put lines of glowing pavement on the floor. Also a new seating for people has been designed specifically for the area between the station and the Rotunda. Here it is:

Of course I had to go through another idea to reach my final design. It wasn't very good but I had to start somehow:
This time the blue circles represent 10 sm deep rills full of water and some lights which would make the space move and vibrate. However that wasn't convincing enough so I threw the idea away :( |
